The S7 Consortium of Sixth Form Colleges

Development Training

Teachers' Toolkit Programme

For some years now, the S7 Consortium has taken a collective responsibility for the development of its currently qualifying and most recently qualified staff. Recognising that the first year in a new teaching post is a challenging one, the S7 Consortium brings together the beginner teachers in each of its colleges to share ideas, issues, concerns and solutions in a five day programme that runs from early Autumn to Spring.

The five day Teachers' Toolkit programme begins with a day looking at the nuts and bolts of plannng and running lessons, offering tips and reflections on making life easier in the classroom. Day Two focuses on making learning work with tutorials on starters and plenaries, tracking, monitoring and target-setting as well as recognising and meetings students' needs in the classroom. The middle day of the sequence focuses squarely on technology and how to make best use of  available technology that can support you.  Day Four is run by an external consultant who this year will be advising delegates on how to work towards becoming a Grade 1 teacher.  The final day begns with a wider perspective and considers the current post-16 landscape in education before finishing the course with a more introspective focus on developing yourself and your potential career path.

The programme for this year is available to download here and further information will be available to view on the relevant Events website page for each day.
