Dual Lesson Observation Standardisation
The scheme works through a visiting external observer - an experienced observer from another S7 College - joining colleagues who are part of the internal lesson observation team of the host college to do a day's observation of up to four different lessons jointly alongside internal team members.
The standardising observer uses the lesson observation scheme and paperwork and discusses and agrees outcomes with each internal observer at the end of each jointly observed session.
Our standardisation scheme has arisen out of quite a bit of debate and discussion and operates along some basic guidelines to agreed principles. The dual observation concludes with a very simple written report that asks the external observer to address the following three questions:
1) Do you agree with the observation judgements that were made?
2) Was there a consistency of approach in reaching judgements in each of the observations that you saw?
3) Do you have any additional comments to make?
